The Yoga Sutras of Pantanjali by Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati

The Yoga Sūtras is a concise summary of the ancient oral Yoga tradition. Believed to have been systematized and committed to writing by Maharshi Patanjali thousands of years ago, it remains the authoritative source text of Yoga philosophy, psychology and practice today.

Its first three sūtras or aphorisms define Yoga as our natural state of pure awareness, beyond the changes or modifications of body, mind and senses. The remaining formulas progressively and scientifically chart a path to awaken the highest planes of consciousness.

The Yoga Sūtras presents a subjective science. The field of Yoga is the mind.
The methodology is experiential and practical. The process is purifying, transforming and ultimately liberating.

Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati, also known as Shri Ramamurti or Dr. Ramamurti Mishra, was a medical doctor, Sanskrit scholar, East-West Guru and pioneer of Yoga who founded two major ashrams in the United States in the last century. He was dedicated to the Yoga Sūtras throughout his life, and while his scholarly knowledge and depth of understanding were profound, yet he consistently returned to the direct practice of chanting the sūtras to reveal their timeless essence to students.
