Hatha Yoga Pradipika
Hatha Yoga Pradipika or “Light On Yoga” was written by Swami Swatmarama in 1350. It provides clear step-by-step instruction for the practices of hatha yoga, divided into four sections:
- shatkarma and pranayama
- mudra and bandha
Line drawings and diagrams illustrate exactly how to perform the various practices, as well.
This translation into English of Hatha Yoga Pradipika was done by an Australian woman, Swami Muktibodhananda, with oversight from her guru, Swami Satyananda, founder of the famous Bihar School of Yoga. It is considered the most in-depth translation of this great scripture, delving deeply into the details of both the practices and purpose of hatha yoga in commentaries that extend far beyond literal interpretations of Swatmarma’s text. A must for every serious yoga student’s library!
