Jivamukti NYC Classic: Dr. Robert Svoboda - Ayurveda & Yoga
Yoga and Ayurveda are sister sciences, bodies of knowledge with the same ultimate goal that explore life from slightly different perspectives. This lecture explores a few of the ways in which Ayurveda and Yoga can be made to work together to synergize human development: how knowledge of Ayurvedic body typing and physiology can, for example refine yoga practice, and how yoga's understanding of prana and its movements can facilitate an enhanced state of personal health and rejuvination.
Dr. Robert E. Svoboda is the first westerner to graduate from a college of Ayurveda and be licensed to practice Ayurveda in India. During and after his formal Ayurvedic training, his mentorm the Aghori Vimalananda tutored him in Ayurveda, yoga, Jyotish, Tantra, and other forms of classical Indian lore. In 1973 he moved to India and stayed for more than a decade. Since 1985, he has spent many months of each year there. The author of twelve books, he wanders the world lecturing, consulting, and teaching. He serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque and at Bastyr University in Seattle.
