Jivamukti NYC Classic: Robert Thurman - Yoga & Buddhism
Robert Thurman, Professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist studies in the Religion Department of Columbus University, delivered this talk on April 6, 2001 at the Jivamukti Yoga Center in New York City.
Thurman is a renowned expert on Buddhist studies in the West and is co-founder and president of the Tibet House in New York. It was his unique privelege to be the first westerner initiated as a monk by His Holiness The Dalai Lama XIV.
Many find insurmountable differences between the philosophy and the practices of Yoga & Buddhism, but in an eloquent and energetic delivery, Dr Thurman dispels the differences in favor of forming an alliance to benefit all sentient beings by establishing the Dharma in America. Dr. Thurman's vitality and excitement for this topic of Yoga & Buddhism shows unique ability to synthesize and process age-old traditions into a valuable and integral part of the American Dharma-scape. All Dharma practitioners should hear these words.
